A long-time favorite of tourists and Alaskans, the Van Gilder Hotel was built in 1916 and placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1980. It is located in the Historic District of downtown Seward within easy walking distance to restaurants and shopping and only two blocks away from the Alaska SeaLife Center and the Seward Museum. You will find The Van Gilder Hotel, a veteran landmark of early-day Alaska- when comfort, convenience and hospitality were of legendary quality and respect.
Brass beds and period antiques allow our guests to enjoy the authentic Victorian charm of an early century hotel. Our Alaskan collection of books in the library and historic photo histories throughout the hotel walls complete our step back in time. For your comfort we offer modern amenities such as private baths and flat screen cable television. Due to the hotel being built in 1916 we do not have an elevator; first floor rooms may be requested at the time of reservation.
